If you’re a parent, you know how scary it can be watching your children imitate the things you do and say. Their ability to absorb and reflect our mannerisms, attitudes, even our facial expressions can be eerie.
As a parent we have to be aware at all times, what we do and say around our kids. Their actions, decisions, and thought processes are most impacted by the lessons they learn through watching us.
With that in mind, what are the lessons you most want to teach your kids? What do you think will help them the most in life? Is there a specific character trait, attitude, mindset, or philosophy you want them to live by in their adult years?
How do some of these sound?
- Work hard and become a leader
- Anything worthwhile takes time
- If it were easy anyone could do it
- There’s no elevator, everyone has to take the stairs
- Every cloud has a silver lining
- Failure is an opportunity to learn and do better the next time
- Without failure there can be no success
- Positivity is contagious
- A negative mindset will never give you a positive life
- Always start with why you want something
- Keep your dream alive
- Without a goal, you’re lost
- The only competition is with yourself
- No one succeeds by themselves
- Without coach or mentor, you’re wasting time
- Learn from other people’s mistakes
- Progress happens in little steps
- A bat never swung is ball never hit
- Your attitude determines your altitude
- Surround yourself with lions or get eaten with the sheep
- If you want to soar with the eagles stop hanging around with chickens
- Motivation is directly related to how badly you want something, so want something badly
This list can go on and on and on….
Every single one of these ideas and thoughts can be seen in a person’s effort to improve their health and fitness. The challenges and commitment it takes to change one’s lifestyle forces them to work through many situations where these come into play.
Through the process of self-improvement, we face obstacles in scheduling, money, dealing with other people, being coached, following a plan, staying committed, being positive, and focusing on the goals we’ve set.
Our kids see it all.
They don’t necessarily know what goes on at your job or what you do in your social time. When you set a goal to change your lifestyle, it comes home with you like nothing else in your life.
They see the challenges you face and how you deal with them.
They see when you decide to do nothing, and they see when you make a commitment and do what it takes.
What you do want to show them?
